Ardmac have been awarded the specialist cleanroom construction on the biggest bio-pharma manufacturing facility to be built in Ireland on behalf of Wuxi Biologics.

Chinese pharmaceutical firm WuXi Biologics have commenced developing a purpose-built facility at the IDA’s 26-hectare site at Mullagharlin in Dundalk. WuXi’s facility has been described as the ‘Factory of the Future’ by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and is the first sizable Greenfield project from China in the pharma sector.

Jason Casey, Associate Director at Ardmac said “we are delighted to have been selected as preferred contractor for the WuXi facility, this is an exciting time for Dundalk and we are delighted to be a part of their story in Ireland.”

Ardmac are expected to employ over 200 people over the course of the project, expected for completion in the next five years. The contract includes the completion of 15,000m2 of cleanroom footprint.

WuXi Biologics are a ‘global open-access biologics technology platform company and will establish the new biologics drug substance manufacturing facility.

Headquartered in Wuxi City, China, have become a leading name in the development and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.

The company will also install the world’s ‘largest facility using single use bio- reactors’ at their new Dundalk base.

Ardmac will deliver the project using their SMART delivery model implementing Lean principles and techniques coupled with the implementation of the latest digital field collaboration software to support the build efficiently.

Ardmac recently announced the launch of their partnership with US company Germfree to bring Germfree’s bioGO Mobile and Modular Cleanroom Buildings to the European markets.
