Ardmac announces Manchester Mind as UK charity for 2019

31 January 2019

Ardmac, the leading construction specialist, has announced that it has selected mental health charity Manchester Mind as its UK nominated charity for 2019. Ardmac has chosen this charity as they continue to focus on the issue of mental health, following a campaign launch in late 2018 to help tackle and challenge mental health issues within the construction sector.

Over the past number of years there has been an increasing number of employees in the construction industry suffering from mental health issues, and so Ardmac is aiming to help tackle this issue through raising vital funds for Manchester Mind. In 2018, Ardmac has raised over £35,000 across UK, Ireland and Europe through various initiatives including friendly football leagues and sponsorship of local clubs and teams across its operations bases. Ardmac hopes to raise even more funds for its chosen charity in 2019.

Speaking on the charity partner announcement, Andrew Winstanley MD of Ardmac, said; “We are delighted to be supporting Manchester Mind this year. At Ardmac, we are committed to playing our part in tackling the issue of mental health in the construction industry and so working with this charity partner is a natural fit for us. We are proud to support the excellent work that Manchester Mind carry out and we hope to raise significant funds for them over 2019.”

Manchester Mind is a local voluntary sector organisation providing essential mental health services to people in Manchester. It is committed to improving the lives of people with mental health needs in the area and delivers a wide range of services to support people’s mental health. Last year, over 5,000 people received support, information and training from Manchester Mind.

Joanna Huddart at Manchester Mind said, “Mental health issues do not discriminate and will affect us all at some stage of life – regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, income or class, either directly or perhaps for a friend, work colleague or family member. By supporting Manchester Mind this year, Ardmac can make a lasting impact on the help we can offer children, young people and adults in mental distress across the city. We raise all our own funds locally, so sincere thanks for being there for people who are struggling this year.”

As an organisation, Ardmac is committed to encouraging wellness through fitness and lunchtime activities, as well as offering support for employees on maintaining a positive and active lifestyle.

Ardmac has also launched a new CSR programme, Sky Blue, which will provide a framework and structure for its corporate responsibility objectives. As part of this, Ardmac is reviewing its fleet and supply chain to develop sustainable practices and is also partnering with Business in the Community UK to achieve this.
